In-between starting a new Job, new company www.expatmumsinzurich.com (check it out if you haven’t already done so) and looking after a family, blogging have had to take a back seat for a while, forgive me please I promise to do better.
Now, get a cuppa, this is going to be a long post.
I know for a lot of parents, travelling with kids is something they would rather avoid if they can. But between working and living in two countries, travelling often is something we can’t avoid.
Last week’s flight marked our little darlings 35th flight in the space of 16 months. If there was an award for best behaved kid on a flight, my little darling would win it. Of course, travelling with and Infant/Toddler is never going to be stress free, but below are things we do to make our trips a lot quieter and a happy one for both parent and baby.
First of all, Companionship: I try not to travel alone with Chloé without my husband being there. But unfortunately, its not always possible and majority of the time I have had to do it on my own, it is always a lot more stressful but not impossible.
Sleep is important to kids! When we are planning a trip, we usually Plan our flight time around her bedtime/nap times. It is best to aim for just before your little one gets sleepy, so by the time we have boarded the flight, she is usually tired and ready to get back to sleep. I would already have a warm bottle of milk ready for her as soon as the plane takes off i feed her her warm milk and she goes straight back to sleep and she would usually sleep for the entire duration of the flight even sometimes until we pick up baggages. This rule also apply to nap times (afternoon flight) or bedtime (late evening flight). (bare in mind, this only works for short haul flights. For long haul flights, please follow the rest of my tips.
Car Seat/Stroller or Pram- Carseat and Pram can be checked in at the check in counter, but i prefer to have Chloé in her buggy until we get to the aircraft door where I am usually able to leave the buggy before boarding the plane. And at the check in desk, make sure to ask for the buggy to be delivered to aircraft door after landing. This really helps to reduce stress of having to carry baby and nappy-bag at the same time. To be able to do this, Most airline require your buggy to be a one piece buggy meaning (It should fold Into one). Our buggy the bugaboo bee is so light weight and folding it can be done within a second. so, if you are a frequent flyer, having a versatile pram makes a big difference. Continue reading
